So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. Galatians 5:16-17 (NIV)
How do we allow God to lead us when the world is constantly shouting, “Do what you want… trust how you feel”? It may seem like a fairly simple question. But the truth of the matter is, even when we are in relationship with God, we may still find that we struggle with being led by the flesh. This is especially true when you have to respond to someone that has wronged you or when life has treated you unfairly. These feelings can even crop up when we think that we deserve a day off from the business and responsibilities of life.
However, we have to remain diligent and committed to the things of Christ. Without acknowledging that we need His help, we forget just how important it is to stay connected to God. When we are connected to God in prayer and faithful to studying the bible, we will find it easier to adhere to His instruction. More importantly, we have to put obedience into our daily practice. If we can learn to be directed in those areas that are less challenging, it will become easier to overcome our flesh when we are most vulnerable.
