Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38-39 (NIV)
God makes many promises to us when we receive Him as our Lord. The gift of the Holy Spirit is one, and with it, we are truly empowered for everything we may encounter. We must be sure not to resist the Spirit, but welcome and be filled by Him. By receiving Christ, we are now on a new path that will lead us to our fullest potential. When filled, we will be equipped with power for the things that life may bring.
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
When we become “born again” we are given gifts to help us in our spiritual life and spiritual battles. They help us work towards fulfilling the will of God in our lives and those gifts are meant to help others. While some seasons of our lives are difficult (we will certainly face trying times), what God has given us will strengthen and empower us to face them, no matter what they may be. Christ has won the spiritual battles already. We are the ones called to take that message forward and show it to all. We do not fight for victory. We fight from victory!
Pray: Lord, grant me perseverance over my troubles. Help me to see where the Holy Spirit is guiding me and where I may be resisting the Holy Spirit’s assistance. Let me remember that you have given me what I need to overcome any difficult situation in my life. While the battles I may face are hard and may wear upon me, remind me of how Jesus has already won them and that the one who is in me is greater than the one who is in the world. Amen
