The Two Forces

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. …The Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. Galatians 5:16-17 (NLT)

Here is a story that leads to a biblical point.  A tribal elder was teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he says to the boy.  “It is a terrible fight and it is between two dogs. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”  He continues, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person too.”  The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which dog will win?”  The tribal elder simply replied, “The one that you feed.”

Inside each of us is an ability for good and evil.  It is our choice which one we will choose to nurture.  Will you choose to follow God and obey Him or will you follow the sinful nature mentioned in the book of Galatians?

Prayer: God, I choose to be a force for good.  Remind me to feed the good nature and starve the evil.  Show me areas where I need to ask for forgiveness and turn back to you.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
