How Can I Get Wisdom?

These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.  Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise.  Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair… Proverbs 1:1-3 (NLT)

We can see that wisdom is important and that it can bring many benefits to us, but how do we gain it?  How can we learn the wisdom to live well?  The first step is to read the Word of God (especially the book of Proverbs).  While we’ve taken some steps to read it casually over the last couple days, today, we should make a plan to read through the whole book over time.  By immersing ourselves in the Bible and really paying attention to it as we read it, we can not only learn what it says but also see how it connects to our everyday lives, even in areas we might not expect.  We can then implement a plan to follow what we learn.  While it is great to be knowledgeable, it is even more important to put that knowledge into actions that make a difference.  It may take discipline and hard work to make some of the changes, but you will see the benefit and importance of doing so over time.

Pray: Lord, help me to fully grasp the wisdom you have provided for me.  Give me the strength and perseverance to truly learn what you have taught and to put this wisdom into action in my life.  Help me to have the discipline to make the changes that I know are for my betterment and the grace to continue if I falter.  Thank you for giving me this wisdom to follow.  Amen
