Make a Commitment to God’s Standards

Make a Commitment to God’s Standards

How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. Psalm 119:9 (NLT)

When we are ready to live a life that is counter to the culture we live in, we must decide to make a commitment to God’s standards. God’s standards for our lives give us meaningful parameters to live by that are intended to help us avoid some of the consequences to our actions. While we are free to make our own decisions, we are not free from the consequences of those decisions. Much like a parent guiding a young child, God has given us rules to protect us out of His compassion for us even when we may not see the immediate need for it. These rules relate to all aspects of our lives – from relationships to finances, careers, family, and more – and are given to us to lead us to our best life regardless of our age or stage of life. When we are ready to make God the focus of our lives, we are ready to commit to the way of life He has called us to.

Pray: Lord, give me the strength to commit to your standards. When I struggle with living counter to the cultural expectations around me, help me to remain steadfast in your ways. While I strive to stay focused on living a holy life, allow me to see the benefits of why I follow your Word and also realize the consequences I may be avoiding. Thank you for giving me this chance to change my ways and for the guidance to continue forward on the path you have called me to. Amen.
