The words of Nehemiah son of Hakaliah: In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa, Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem. They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the provinces are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” Nehemiah 1:1-3 (NIV)
Jerusalem was in trouble because the walls of the city were broken down. The gates had been torn down, burned with fire, and were no longer usable.
When we look back on our life, it is much like the city of Jerusalem. We have been hurt, broken and no longer feel like we can function and have purpose. We sometimes feel that there is no way to repair our broken life and it’s much easier for us to hide rather than face it.
It may not be easy, but God wants us to bring Him the broken pieces of our life so He can repair them. He is waiting for us and ready to not only repair our life, but heal and restore it.
