Forgiveness

Forgiveness

Let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servants Moses. Nehemiah 1:6-7 (NIV)

Nehemiah recognized that he and all of the Israelites had sinned against God and he realized just how much they needed God’s forgiveness. He knew what was required and came before the Lord confessing his sin and the sins of his people and pleading for their forgiveness. He knew he had to take responsibility for not only his own sin, but the sin of all his people.

Just as Nehemiah came before the Lord pleading for forgiveness, we too have the same access to the forgiveness of God. Whether it is something from our past we need forgiveness for or something from this week, God is just and willing to forgive our sins when we humbly come to him and ask. It is up to us to face the sin in our lives and come boldly to the Lord to ask for forgiveness.
