“Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also decided to write an accurate account for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught.” Luke 1:1-4 (NLT)
Each of us has heard someone tell a story that may not have been completely true. We would listen carefully to the story they told us looking for clues about the story’s accuracy. We may even ask witnesses to confirm whether or not the story was true. While it may have sounded unbelievable in the beginning, after doing the research, we knew if the story was true or not.
The Bible was documented by those who either participated in or witnessed the events. Luke, who wrote the book of Luke and Acts, was a witness to the events he wrote about. He wasn’t just writing about what others told him had happened, such as a news reporter documenting an interview, but Luke lived during the time of Jesus’ ministry and was part of the early church.
Prayer: God, thank you for sending authors to document you throughout history. Thank you that I live in a time where access to your word is easy and available to many. Help me appreciate your word and meditate on it day and night. In Jesus name. Amen.
