Sin came into the world through one person, and death came through sin. So death spread to everyone, because everyone sinned. Romans 5:12 (GW)
We live in a broken world. When sin came into the world, it broke the perfect creation of God. Disasters, disease, and evil entered the world and continue to wreck havoc on it today. Some of the bad things that happen to us are solely because of this brokenness. However, all of creation wants to return to this perfect state, and God promises that someday that will happen. While we will not be made perfect here in this broken world, we are given the opportunity to be made perfect again in Heaven through faith in Jesus Christ. When the world broke, as God knew it would, He had a plan to fix it. His plan was to send Christ as our Savior (who overcame the world and the troubles in it). Jesus died for our sins so that we would have eternal life. When we put our faith in Jesus, we become saved by way of God’s grace.
It can be hard to imagine this possibility, especially when we are in the depths of a difficult time in our life. We must remember that even Jesus suffered and died before finally rising again. While the disciples surely questioned whether the end had come when Jesus died on the cross, it was His resurrection that proved Him right! God had indeed come to make the world whole again. We too must remember that there will be a resurrection day for us as well and that our faith will bring us there. God will keep His promise to make us whole once more, but He is willing to wait for us to accept that promise! Make the decision to accept Jesus into your life by saying something like this: Jesus, I need you in my life. Forgive me for all of my sins and mess-ups. I’m tired of doing life alone and I need your help. Come into my heart and be Lord over my life. I believe in my heart that you are Lord, that you died for my sins, and that you rose from the dead. Thank you Lord for forgiving me and saving me. AMEN
Prayer: Lord, thank you for always keeping your promises. I know that you will make me whole. While I have faced the consequences of a broken world, I know that my faith in you will lead to my healing. Each time I strive to overcome difficulties with love and patience, I know that I am growing in strength. While I may still question why bad things happen in this world, I trust that you will always fix what is broken and that your plans are always being revealed. Thank you for being patient with me and giving me the time to accept you into my life and grow in my faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
