When is the event?

Monday, October 1, 2018 – Saturday, October 6, 2018

Where will the event take place?

The event will take place in the neighborhood around Durfee Elementary/Central High School in Detroit.

Where will I park when I arrive?

Parking will occur near Durfee Elementary-Middle School (2470 Collingwood Street, Detroit, MI 48206) which is next to Central High School. Follow the parking signs once you arrive at the school.

Where will I check-in after I park?

After you park, walk to Durfee Elementary-Middle School (2470 Collingwood Street, Detroit, MI 48206) and look for the main Life Remodeled Group Sign Up Tent in front of the school.  Next, turn in your Release and Agreement Form and you will receive your t-shirt and other instructions.

What time should I arrive at Durfee Elementary?

Please arrive on-time.  You should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of your volunteer shift. As an example, if you are volunteering for the morning shift, please arrive 30 minutes before the morning shift start time.

If I'm parking at Durfee Elementary/Central High School, how will I get to the neighborhood volunteer areas near the school?

Shuttles will take you from Durfee Elementary/Central High School to one of the neighborhood Command Centers for your team assignment and to pick up tools. The shuttles will also take you back to Durfee Elementary after your shift has ended.

What will I be doing at the event?

Activities may include cutting overgrown brush, mowing grass, removing debris, painting, planting trees & perennials, and more.

What time is lunch?

Enjoy lunch at the Command Center at your assigned time (given at the Command Center at beginning of shift).  After lunch, you will return to the neighborhood to work until your shift is over.

What happens after my shift has ended?

After your shift, you will catch one of the shuttles directly back to Durfee Elementary. After you arrive back at the school, you may proceed to your vehicle.

What’s the minimum age to volunteer?

The minimum age to volunteer is 14.

Can I volunteer for more than one day?

Yes! You can easily volunteer for more than one day on the form above.

Can anyone volunteer?

Yes! This serving opportunity is open to anyone, not just Heritage Church members.

How safe is the area?

The event was extremely safe last year. In addition to the 10,000 volunteers that will be present this year, Life Remodeled has a volunteer security team, and the Detroit Police Department will be patrolling the area.

How should I dress at the event?

Please wear work clothes (long pants) and bring your hat, sunscreen, protective eyewear, work gloves, and insect repellent. Also, wear comfortable closed toe shoes (no heels, sandals, etc).  Lastly, don’t forget to bring your cell phone.

Is Heritage coordinating carpooling for the Life Remodeled event?

We are unable to facilitate a carpool process. We recommend that each volunteer contact their friends who will be volunteering to share a ride.
