We are excited to partner with Life Remodeled! Heritage Church has a goal of 500 volunteers so we can have maximum impact in the Central High School area. That means we need YOU! Please complete the form below to volunteer on the Beautification Team during the week of July 31st – August 5th, 2017. This could include removing trash, mowing grass, trimming bushes, raking, etc. Please complete all fields and select your volunteer day(s) and shift(s). Tools, lunch, and water will be provided. Please complete a separate form for each volunteer. Also, don’t forget to bring your Release and Agreement form with you to the event (see the Q & A section at the bottom of this page). Thanks for helping us impact Detroit!
Monday, July 31, 2017 – Saturday, August 5, 2017
The event will take place in the neighborhood around Durfee Elementary/Central High School in Detroit.
After you park, walk to Durfee Elementary-Middle School (2470 Collingwood Street, Detroit, MI 48206) and look for the Heritage Church sign on one of the white tents in front of the school. When you meet the Heritage representative, turn in your Release and Agreement Form and you will receive your t-shirt and other instructions.
Please arrive on-time. You should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of your volunteer shift. As an example, if you are volunteering for the 9:00 AM shift, please arrive by 8:30 AM.
Shuttles will take you from Durfee Elementary/Central High School to one of the neighborhood Command Centers for your team assignment and to pick up tools. The shuttles will also take you back to Durfee Elementary after your shift has ended.
We will be serving in the Beautification Area doing tasks such as raking, mowing lawns, sweeping, trimming bushes, removing debris, etc.
Enjoy lunch at the Command Center at your assigned time (given at the Command Center at beginning of shift). After lunch, you will return to the neighborhood to work until your shift is over.
After your shift, you will catch one of the shuttles directly back to Durfee Elementary. After you arrive back at the school, you may proceed to your vehicle.
The minimum age to volunteer is 14.
Yes! You can easily volunteer for more than one day on the form above.
Yes! This serving opportunity is open to anyone, not just Heritage Church members.
The event was extremely safe last year. In addition to the 10,000 volunteers that will be present this year, Life Remodeled has a volunteer security team, and the Detroit Police Department will be patrolling the area.
Please wear work clothes (long pants) and bring your hat, sunscreen, protective eyewear, work gloves, and insect repellent. Also, wear comfortable closed toe shoes (no heels, sandals, etc). Lastly, don’t forget to bring your cell phone.
Due to the sheer volume of volunteers, we are unable to facilitate a carpool process. We recommend that each volunteer contact their friends who will be volunteering to share a ride.
