“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25 (NIV)
Each of us has been in a situation where we were trying and learning something new. We wanted to figure it out and do it on our own. We may have had someone, more experienced, nearby willing to help us but were determined to figure it out ourselves. After a while, we may have decided to ask for help and with their knowledge, we quickly accomplished what we set out to do. But instead of struggling, we learned from their experience.
God sees and knows our lives from the perspective of eternity. He knows things we could never understand. We can try to do things on our own, or we can build our lives on a firm foundation based on God’s knowledge. When we do things God’s way, even if things seem to be going wrong, we can stand strong knowing God is in control. He will work it out for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). Listen to God and build a firm foundation.
Prayer: God, thank you that you know and love me. I choose to hear and put your word into practice. Help me to use your wisdom in my life. In Jesus name. Amen.
