Plans succeed through good counsel; don’t go to war without wise advice. Proverbs 20:18 (NLT)
Let’s analyze this bible verse. It states that plans succeed through good counsel (or advice, guidance, direction, etc.). As you are making plans for the future, it’s important to get counsel from others to ensure that you have success.
Now, the bible doesn’t instruct us to pursue just any kind of counsel. It specifically says that plans succeed through good counsel. So, there must be a difference between generic counsel (advice) and good counsel. As an example, generic counsel from a friend could be as simple as them giving you their opinion which could shift based on how they feel in the moment. Good counsel is different. Good counsel is sound advice rooted in wisdom, not opinion.
Where can you get good counsel related to plans for your life? You can find good counsel by reading the bible, listening to messages online, or from other people who will give you a biblical perspective. Notice, we didn’t say that good counsel would necessarily be what you want to hear, but it’s good for your growth.
We all need people in our lives who will pray for us, encourage us, give us biblical direction, and tell us “no” when we are making unwise choices. Who are the people in your life who can give you good counsel?
