WHEN IS MCREST???
June 25-July 2nd (Sunday evening through the following Sunday morning)
We will be hosting between 30-35 homeless people in our church. We will be providing them with a breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner and snacks. In addition we will be providing transportation to and from their jobs and interviews. We also provide showers and haircuts, but most of all we try and show them that they are loved by God and that there is a better way to live their lives. We do this in a compassionate and non-judgmental way only showing them Christ’s love as he showed his for us.
WHAT IS MCREST???
MCREST is a non-profit organization that provides meals, lodging, life-skills training, housing assistance, job readiness training and emergency shelter 365 days each year to Macomb County’s homeless population. MCREST has been in existence since 1988. They help to locate safe affordable rental housing, a portion of the first year’s rent for children and their families who have an income and a reasonable prospect to resume future payments and agree to accept case management services that work with them towards self-reliance.
Training is provided through a Learning and Resource Center with emphasis on employability skills training, interpersonal development, resumé design and interviewing skills. When training is completed, the center will assist in developing a personalized job search plan. There are now more than 90 congregations participating and partnering with MCREST representing numerous denominations each year.
As you can see, MCREST is a multi-faceted program that provides and address all of the key barriers identified for a successful transition to self-sufficiency. The only missing link is YOU!!!
