“When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside. But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.” 2 Corinthians 7:5-6 NLT
We face a different world than Paul did when he arrived in Macedonia, but we too can face “battles on the outside and fear on the inside.” We can feel crushed by the weight of a world that seems to be falling apart around us. In such times, it can be easy to listen to the voice of the enemy whispering that we aren’t strong enough, good enough, or worthy enough.
Like Paul, we can trust in God to provide encouragement. Like Paul, we are unlikely to have God write reassurances in the sky. Instead, God moves in the details of life, bringing encouragement in a multitude of ways if we are willing to open our eyes. It may be a text from a close relative, a song on the radio, a visit from a good friend, or a thousand other “small” things. God moves in the so-called small things, bringing encouragement and letting us know that He cares.
Prayer: Dear Lord, You know me better than I know myself, and You know the needs of my heart before I ask. It can be easy to see the battle and hard to see Your encouragement. Help me to see Your hand in the details of my life. I ask that You open my eyes so that I can see You move in my life. Thank You for loving me, Lord. Amen.
