Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. Romans 14:19 (NKJV)
The Bible tells us something very interesting about peace in the verse above. Whether we are looking at this verse in the context of the Church or in a broader context, the Bible tells us to pursue the things that lead to peace. The word “pursue” means that you are actively working or striving toward something. This verse doesn’t say that it would be easy, but that we should pursue it. God wants you to actively pursue peace with all people – neighbors, friends, family members, coworkers, etc.
But what’s the ultimate goal? We are pursuing peace so there will be unity in our land. When we use the word “land” we are referring to all of the land areas in your life. Pursue peace so that there will be unity in your marriage land. Pursue peace so that there will be unity at your job land. Pursue peace so that there will be unity in your family land. Pursue peace so that there will be unity in the country.
So, it’s been a long year here in the U.S. Let us pursue peace in our conversations, on social media, and in all of the other “lands” in our life. Let us turn our attention toward God and pursue peace so that there will be unity in our country.
