And the Lord said to Moses, “This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.” Exodus 33:17 (ESV)
What exactly is God’s favor? Favor is often considered grace, mercy, or blessings from God. It’s also the thing God does for you that fills the gap between what you can do for yourself and what you need God to do for you.
Pastor Jeff put it like this in his message: Favor is the Guarantee of God’s presence and the Provision of God’s power to accomplish God’s special Purpose in and through your life.
Think about Moses. God called Moses to lead God’s people out of Egypt and into the Promised Land which God had planned for them. Moses was raised in Pharaoh’s palace which gave Moses great leadership skills. But Moses had an ugly past. Moses killed someone. Moses was truly nervous, anxious about being called by God to do this mission. Moses asked several times that God would show His favor to him…beyond a shadow of doubt.
God replied to Moses “I will do it. You have my favor. I know you Moses by name…personally, specifically, intimately. I will be with you.” Friends, you too can have God’s favor. God’s favor is given to you the moment you believe in Jesus.
Pray: Dear God, thank you for Your favor that is promised in the Bible. Thank you that You do not and cannot lie. If it’s in Your true Word, the Bible, then it is my guarantee. Help me to see Your favor. Help me to look for ways You are blessing me, showing me grace, or giving me mercy. And God, help me to know You more, trust You more, and love You more every day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
