“You are my friends if you do what I command.” John 15:14 (NIV)
After accepting Christ, your first step to a new life and future with God, what’s next?
How do we become friends with God? Can you really be friends with God? The answer is YES! The Bible says we can be friends with God if we do what He commands.
If you are familiar with the 10 Commandments you may be thinking, “I haven’t killed anybody, I’ve been faithful in my marriage, I don’t steal….” This is a good start my friend. There is more to God’s commands than just the top 10. God has given over 600 more commands that Christ-followers should obey.
You may be saying to yourself, “WHAT! There are 600+ rules to live by?” It may seem like God wants robots or only perfect people in His family. That could not be further from the truth. God wants you—just the way you are.
You will get to know that God loves you as you draw closer to Him through this study and through His Words in the Bible. God will help you live your best life. God will work out your faults, flaws, and failures gently and lovingly. Before you realize, you’ll be living a life that honors God and follows God’s principles.
Let’s face it, even Mother Theresa and Billy Graham still faced issues with not following all of God’s commands perfectly. Those two are definitely friends of God. You too will progress in your journey of faith and you too will stumble. But God loves you. God will help you through your mistakes. God wants you to be His friend and He has been waiting for a relationship with you.
