What’s in Your Store?

Be sensible and store up precious treasures… Proverbs 21:20 (CEV)

Money that comes easily disappears quickly, but money that is gathered little by little will grow. Proverbs 13:11 (NCV)

Saving for the future now, leads to better days in the future.  The Bible says sensible people store up/save.  Wealth does not come by what you make, it comes by what you choose to save.  Money that comes easily also goes easily.  Money you must work hard for is usually harder to spend.

In today’s society, people in prosperous communities sometimes envy more—they envy people and things, always wanting what they don’t have.  Be cautious about this kind of lifestyle.  People go to great lengths to spend money to impress people they don’t know or like.  This is foolish from a big picture perspective.

Good money management principles suggest setting three goals for your income:

  1. 10% Saving goal
  2. 10% Giving Goal
  3. 80% Spending goal

Will you set these goals for your spending so you can honor God with your saving and giving?

Pray: Dear God, my finances are off track according to these financial principles.  I don’t know where to start.  Help me to get honest with myself about my finances.  Help me to have courage to seek help in this area.  Help me to discipline myself to save more and spend less.  God you have blessed me and your Word says you have more blessings in store.  You want me to be free from the bondage of debt so I can be free to do your good work.  I need you in this area of my life.  Please help me.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
