Abundant Life

Abundant Life

A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance. John 10:10 (CSB)

Think about a corn or tomato seed. You plant one seed, but you don’t get just one seed in return. You get a stalk of corn with multiple ears and each ear has more seeds. A single tomato seed will grow a tomato vine with multiple tomatoes filled with more seeds. We can be a blessing to others using the overflow from what was grown.

Jesus came so that we not only could enjoy eternal life, but that we could also live that life in abundance. Galatians 5:22-23 (MSG) states, “But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way.” We can have a life overflowing with good when we have a life based on God’s way.

Prayer:
God, thank you for sending your son so that I can have abundant life. Show me the areas of my life where I am not living according to your way. Help me with practical steps to become more like you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
