All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. Acts 4:32-35 (NIV)
Many unbelievers perceive the church as a group of people fighting against one another. We can seem full of criticism and look judgmental. Sadly, at times the perception is correct. But that is not how God created the Church to be. Jesus told us they would know we were His disciples by our love for each other (John 13:35).
The people in the church referenced in the book of Acts were in one heart and mind. They knew the grace and power of God and loved each other. They wanted to take care of each other to include those who were in need. They were willing to give everything to take care of others. Their acts of love meant that everyone had what they needed.
