Levi gave a large dinner at his home for Jesus. Everybody was there, tax men and other disreputable characters as guests at the dinner. The Pharisees and their religion scholars came to his disciples greatly offended. “What is he doing eating and drinking with crooks and ‘sinners’?” Jesus heard about it and spoke up, “Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? I’m here inviting outsiders, not insiders—an invitation to a changed life, changed inside and out.” Luke 5:29-32 (MSG)
It is easy to think that we have to know a lot of scripture when sharing the gospel. We think we need to get every word right or they won’t hear the message. We think we have to share the message in a certain order or they won’t receive it. We expect that we have to share our faith in a proper place and setting, but that is not the case.
We can share our faith whenever and wherever there is an open door. In the case of these “crooks and sinners”, they learned about Jesus at a dinner party. We are surrounded by people who need the love of God in their life. There are plenty of ways we can share the love of God in our daily lives. Let’s start today!
- What can you do to share the love of God with others?
- What everyday situation is an opening that God has prepared for you?
