Don’t Reinvent the Wheel

Don’t Reinvent the Wheel

One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night. At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles. Here are their names: Simon (whom he named Peter), Andrew (Peter’s brother), James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (who was called the zealot), Judas (son of James), Judas Iscariot (who later betrayed him). When they came down from the mountain, the disciples stood with Jesus on a large, level area, surrounded by many of his followers and by the crowds. There were people from all over Judea and from Jerusalem and from as far north as the seacoasts of Tyre and Sidon. Luke 6:12-17 (NLT)

A key to success in life is finding a good mentor.  In the verse above Jesus chose 12 of His disciples and mentored them.  In the mentoring process, you are receiving guidance and direction on making the correct decisions.  Having a mentor will cause you to advance further even faster because you are learning from the wisdom of others.  So, don’t reinvent the wheel.  Utilize the wisdom of others to make good decisions in life.

How do you find a mentor?  We’re not suggesting that you walk up to the first person that you see to make them your mentor.  Finding a mentor usually occurs through some form of an established relationship.  Whether it’s related to life, raising children, marriage, or business, find a mentor who is successful in the area of your need and learn from their wisdom.

Who should be your first mentor?  Jesus!  Like the twelve disciples that Jesus called, you should learn from Jesus and take His guidance on what to do in your life.  How do you get His guidance?  By reading what the Bible says about Him.  A great way to do that is by starting the Summer Reading Plan at Heritage.  You will go through the 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).  The Gospels are a great way to learn about Jesus, His teachings, and what He wants you to do.  Start reading today!
