Flip the Tables

Flip the Tables

“Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables.” John 2:15 (NLT)

Selling items to travelers was normal in the temple. People would travel from great distances to worship God. As part of their worship, they would bring sacrifices to the temple. Since they traveled so far, they would convert the money from their homes to the local currency with the money changers and buy what they needed for sacrifice. Jesus’ anger was not at the activity in general but at the corruption of the activity. They had turned the normal activities into a method to take advantage of God’s people. We need to be willing to flip the tables when we see someone being treated unfairly. We should be willing to come to their defense.

Prayer: God, thank you for being a just God. Make me more aware of the injustices around me. Give me the boldness and wisdom to know how and when to stand up for others. In Jesus name. Amen
