God Is Closer Than You Think

God Is Closer Than You Think

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalm 34:18 (NLT)

The holidays are filled with joy and happiness for most people.  But for some, this season is a painful reminder of hurt experienced by the loss of a family member, a divorce, or some other difficult life situation.  In these times we must remember that God is always close to us.  This verse tells us that He is close to the brokenhearted (those experiencing great hurt).  Your emotions or feelings are not an indication of the “closeness” of God or His proximity to you.  You may feel alone but the Bible guarantees that He is near.

This is one of the main reasons why you can’t let your emotions or feelings run your life.  Your emotions are driven by what you see, what you’ve experienced, what you’ve heard, etc.  But your emotions are not an indicator of what will happen next in your life – it’s just a snapshot of how you currently feel.  That’s why the Bible tells us to walk by faith (your belief and action based on God’s Word), not by what you see.  What you see is constantly changing and you shouldn’t tie your emotional state to it.  So, live by your belief in what God’s Word (the Bible) tells you about your life, not by how things appear.

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)
