God is Near

God is Near

My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear…I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart. Psalm 38:4, 8

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18

David was considered a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22), yet he was far from perfect.  In 2 Samuel we find the story of David, Uriah, and Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife.  In short, David had an affair with Bathsheba and tried to cover it up when Bathsheba became pregnant.  When that failed, he had Uriah killed in battle.  Those don’t sound like the actions of a man after the heart of God.

David admitted his sins.  He prayed to God, expressing his great guilt.  David came to God in guilt and anguish, but also with honesty, admitting that he had done a great wrong.  While David was punished for his actions, God was still with him.  There was life and a future even after David’s sin.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I admit that I am a sinner.  I admit that I’ve made mistakes.  I am grateful that you are near me when I call.  Thank you for always standing with me, even in my mistakes and imperfections. Help me to always come to you with an open and honest heart.  Thank you, Lord, for being near me.  Amen.
