Obey God’s message! Don’t fool yourselves by just listening to it. If you hear the message and don’t obey it, you are like people who stare at themselves in a mirror and forget what they look like as soon as they leave. But you must never stop looking at the perfect law that sets you free. God will bless you in everything you do, if you listen and obey, and don’t just hear and forget. James 1:22-25 (CEV)
This verse informs us of the importance of reading God’s Word (the Bible), but it also warns us that we must do what we hear. Transformation in life comes from hearing AND doing what God tells us. Oftentimes, we love the verses in the Bible that relate to God’s blessings, protection, etc., but we are not always enthusiastic about the verses that challenge us such as praying for our enemies. We don’t have the option of picking and choosing what we will obey from God’s Word. This verse tells us that God will bless us in everything we do IF we listen and obey.
