Log

“First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” Matthew 7:5 (NLT)

When there are issues in a relationship, it’s usually easy for us to identify what the other person should have done differently. If only they spent more time with us. If only they spoke more kindly. If only they thought about how what they did made you feel.

But if we step back and look at the situation, we may be able to identify our part in it. Is it possible we were grumpy or busy and not easy to be around? Could we have been short with them because we had a bad day? Maybe they had something going on in their work outside the relationship that was affecting them? When we take a step back and look at the situation from a different angle, we may find things we can work on in ourselves to make the relationship better.

Prayer: God, thank you for reminding me that I can only change me. Show me the areas I need to grow in to make the relationships in my life better. Help me to make the changes I need to make. In Jesus name. Amen.
