“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Luke 16:13 (NIV)
Life can get busy. We find ourselves obligated to our jobs, families, friends, hobbies, and more. When our priorities are out of sync with how we ought to live, we begin to feel overwhelmed or conflicted. We need to take some time to refocus on what is truly most important to us.
When it comes to finding a starting point to refocus our lives, we need to start at the very beginning, with our Creator. God has given us instructions throughout the Bible that tell us how to live in harmony with our design. From the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) to the Greatest Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40), we are called to love God first and put Him first in all we do. Whatever we put first in our lives will be the master we serve and we cannot serve two masters. The key to freedom is choosing the best master and God is the only one who can truly set us free.
Today, consider what areas of your life are in conflict, or that are otherwise not as you would like them to be. Which area or priority would you consider to be your master? How does God factor in to your priorities? Reflect on what ways you may want to refocus in order to take the conflict out of your priorities and make your life more focused on what God intends it to be.
