“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” John 9:3 (NIV)
Sometimes when bad things happen to us, it could be that God is using those situations to do something big in our life (God doesn’t cause the bad things, but can use that situation to do amazing things). In the example above, a man was born blind so that in the future, when Jesus was in his town, he could be healed as a way to show the power of God and the truth of Jesus. While this dramatic use of misfortune may not be something many of us encounter, there is a lesson in that scripture for us to think about. While it may be hard to consider it when we are in the midst of hardship, it is something we could reflect on in hindsight and see how God used difficult times in order to show His glory.
Prayer: Lord, allow me to have a different perspective on the difficult times I have, and have had in my life. Allow me to consider whether they may have been a way for you to use me to further show your glory. Guide me to understand how I can use what I have learned from these difficulties to further your presence in the world and to be an example of your love to those around me. Amen.
