Start Small

Start Small

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

Joseph was seventeen when he was sold into slavery by his brothers. He went from slave to servant in Potiphar’s house to become a prisoner and then second-in-command of Egypt. David was a lowly shepherd who became king. Moses was the child of an Israelite slave who led a nation out of slavery. Peter was a fisherman who started the early church. Jesus was the Son of God and a carpenter who saved us all from sin and death. Each of us have a different starting point in life. We can come from small beginnings, and God can still use us to do big things. We may never speak to thousands, but we can make a difference in the life of one person every day. We could say something that changes his/her life forever. We could plant a seed that God could use to save his/her soul. We could show him/her the love of God that gives him/her the strength to push through one more day. Our little bit of faith can cause big things to happen. Don’t be afraid to start small.

Prayer: God, thank you for reminding me not to despise small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). Show me the small thing I need to do today. Help me to have the faith of a mustard seed. Even if I don’t believe, I choose to be available for whatever you want me to do today. In Jesus name. Amen.
