Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like. James 1:22-24 (MSG)
Anyone who has interacted with children have experienced their selective hearing. They are given instructions of what to do, but may ignore it, then wonder why things go wrong. We sometimes do the same thing as children of God. He is willing to provide us guidance every day, but we may choose to ignore it or do things our own way.
God’s choice for us is that we listen to His plans for us and act on them. He has plans for each of us to have an impact on the world around us. We need to not only hear what He tells us, but take action based on His direction. He wants to lead and guide us into the plans He has but we need to follow His leading.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
