We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
Our thoughts determine the course of our lives (Proverbs 4:23). We can choose to think on good, pure, and lovely things (Philippians 4:8). We can also choose to focus on the brokenness all around us. We can choose to see ourselves the way God does or we can look at ourselves by dwelling on the failures of our past.
We have the ability to capture our thoughts. When we have a thought that doesn’t match how God sees us, we can stop it and remind ourselves about who we are. We can remind ourselves that God has plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11). We can remind ourselves that we are never alone because God will never leave us (Hebrews 13:5). It is time to take our thoughts captive.
Prayer: God, show me the plans you have for me. Help me remember to take control of my thoughts and make them obedient to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
