Taming My Temper with Family

Taming My Temper with Family

A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.  Proverbs 12:16 (NLT)

Have you ever had an interaction with your in-laws where you felt insulted?  Maybe they made a comment about your parenting methods or commented about your home in a way that made you angry.  Maybe you feel frustrated because they are always in your business or because they consistently ignore the rules and boundaries you’ve set for your family or home (whether intentionally or unintentionally).

The Bible tells us that a fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.  God wants us to focus on our reaction despite their action.  Yes, you could get angry, but how does that improve the relationship or resolve the issues that are frustrating you?  Make a decision to stay calm, show love, and communicate when there is a disagreement.

Prayer: God, help me to show love to my in-laws.  Help me to stay calm and communicate with them when I have dislikes.  Help us to resolve any underlying issues so there is no tension in my home.  I thank you for helping me.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
