Many of the people viewed as being “heroes of faith” (found in Hebrews 11) made mistakes. Jacob cheated his brother out of the family blessing (Genesis 25:19-34). Moses was a murderer (Exodus 2:11-15). Rahab was a prostitute (Joshua 2). Samson broke his vows to God (Judges 13-16). David was an adulterer (2 Samuel 11). But their pasts did not prevent them from doing great things for God and being included in the list in Hebrews 11.
God has provided a way for us to be redeemed from our past. He made a way so that our past won’t define our future. He wants to use our past to help prepare us for the future He intended for us, instead of the one we deserve. The path to redeeming our past is salvation through Jesus. I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (CEB)
