Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Imagine a child with a new toy they’ve been asking or saving for. You can see the excitement in their eyes as they open it. This is the moment they’ve been waiting for – finally getting to play with the toy. They find such joy in playing with this item. They take such good care of it when putting it away so they can continue to play with it. They are passionate about this new thing.
God reminds us to store up heavenly treasures instead of focusing on earthly treasures that are temporary. When we store the treasures in heaven, our hearts will be filled with the excitement of knowing what is to come. We will look forward to the heavenly treasures that we can spend eternity enjoying in the presence of our loving God.
Prayer:
God, thank you for reminding me that my heart is with what I treasure most. Help me to focus on heavenly treasures instead of earthly ones. Show me if there are any areas where I need to change my focus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
