The Next Generation

The Next Generation

The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.” Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them. Mark 10:13-16 (MSG)

Jesus helped many people during His ministry on earth.  He talked to people from different walks of life, but He was never too busy to care for children.  He knew the importance of caring about future generations.  God calls himself the “God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob” in Matthew 22:32.  He cares about not only the current generation, but generations in the future.  If God cares about future generations, we should too.  We can mentor a child.  We can spend time with the children in our family.  We can volunteer in the kid’s ministry.  We can be a listening ear for our children’s friends who may not have anyone to listen to them.  We can invest time in the next generation by volunteering to coach a sport or teach a skill they can use.  We can show them God’s love by just being there.  It’s time to help the next generation.

Prayer:
God, thank you that you are a God who cares about multiple generations.  Show me how I can help future generations.  I want to invest in the next generation.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
