Transformed in My Emotional Health (Day 24)

Transformed in My Emotional Health (Day 24)

When I kept things to myself, I felt weak deep inside me.  I moaned all day long. Psalm 32:3 (NIV)

As believers, we sometimes think we should keep our emotions in check.  We think we should never have fear or feel upset, angry or sad.  We believe that the emotions we show should always be positive and uplifting.  So, while we experience the negative emotions, we decide to keep them to ourselves.  We don’t want to show our pain or anger to others, as we think that “Good Christians” don’t get upset or have a bad day.

We are reminded that keeping the emotions bottled up inside makes us feel weak.  God created us in His image (Genesis 1:27) which includes giving us emotions.  God has experienced laughter (Psalm 2:4), tears (John 11:33), anger (Exodus 32:10-11) and betrayal (Luke 22:48).  The Bible is filled with examples of people experiencing a wide range of emotions.

God gave us emotions for us to experience life, but they are all meant to be experienced in balance.  We should not ignore the emotions we are feeling, but seek out what they are trying to tell us.  As an example, when we feel angry it could be a symptom of an unresolved issue.  Spend time seeking God for the lesson in your emotions today.
