Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 14:4-7 (NLT)
Marriage often endures 3 stages: Puppy love, Testing, and True love. Stage 1 is wonderful. Stage 2 is a test of your character. Stage 3 is your choice to love—the kind of love that never gives up.
Stage 3 is marked by T.R.U.S.T.
Tenderness: Gentleness with weaknesses, manners, using caution with tender egos.
Respect and Responsibility: Do your part. Show respect and appreciation to your spouse.
Understanding: Knowing your temperament and personality, self-awareness, how you work under stress.
Security: Not going nuclear in fights, not using weakness against each other, 100% commitment to spouse.
Truth: Be open and honest with your spouse. Speak truth in love. Admit your wrongs. Do lots of listening.
Action: Confess your imperfections, pray together-this will make your marriage whole and healed. James 5:16 (MSG)
