Add Action to Your Faith

Add Action to Your Faith

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:17 (NIV)

Faith is made up of belief (based on God’s Word) and action that aligns with your belief.  Think of it this way.  If you are looking for a new job, is it enough to only believe that God can provide a new job?  No!  That’s a great starting point but you must submit a resume, network with colleagues or attend a job fair.  There needs to be some form of action based on your belief.

Think about your own life.  Is your faith accompanied by action?  Here’s a quick process to help you practically apply faith in your life:

  • Identify what you need God to do in your life (be specific).
  • Find scriptures (God’s promises in the Bible) related to what you need. As an example, if you are stressed or worried, do a simple keyword search online for the word “peace” using a website such as www.biblegateway.com.  You can filter the results by selecting a specific book in the Bible (I selected the book of John), Old or New Testament, etc.  Next, read those scriptures daily.  Here is an example scripture on peace:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 (NIV)

  • Identify a specific action that you can do that aligns with your belief.

This is a simple method that you can use to put your faith into action.  If you enjoyed this post, share it with your friends.
