As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. Matthew 9:9 (ESV)
Matthew was a tax collector when Jesus invited him to follow. Tax collectors were disliked by everyone. They were usually dishonest and collected more than their fair share. This did not stop Jesus from inviting Matthew to become a disciple. Matthew’s past didn’t stop him from answering the call and moving into his future to become a writer of one of the four gospels.
When God calls us, He does not expect us to be perfect. He speaks to us right where we are. He invites us to follow Him. He accepts us where we are and helps bring us into the future He has planned for us. Will you answer the call to move into your future?
