Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Ephesians 4:15 (NLT)
During the years of Jesus’ ministry, He made those who He interacted with aware of their shortcomings. When He spoke with the woman at the well, He told her all about her living situation (John 4). But as He spoke with her, He spoke with compassion while still being real with her. This combination brought her to repentance. Her story spread throughout her community where others began to believe in Jesus.
We are called to follow Jesus’ example. There will be times when we need to tell someone about something they may not want to hear, but they need to hear it for their own good. It is important that we tell them the truth but need to balance it with having love and compassion for them.
Prayer:
God, thank you for Jesus example of speaking the truth in love. Help me to grow more and more like Christ. Show me the areas where I need to grow and give me the steps I need to take. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
