Be Content

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Philippians 4:12 (NIV)

It’s easy to compare ourselves to others.  You have a nice home, but they have a bigger home.  You had a vacation, but it seems their vacation was better.  From the outside looking in, it seems that they have the perfect family, the perfect dog, the perfect relationship, etc., but in reality you don’t know the condition of their life.  The Bible tells us that we should be content in any and every situation.  What does the word content mean?  Being satisfied with what you have.  Now, the Bible does not say that we should stop striving for improvement.  It’s simply saying that we should not be in a race with others (or others families) to get things and we shouldn’t compare our life to theirs.  Whenever you compare your life to others, you are always comparing apples and oranges.  In what areas of your life have you not been content?  Ask God to help you be content in those areas.
