I Didn’t Sign up for This

I Didn’t Sign up for This

You wake up early in the morning and walk into the kitchen.  Even though you just cleaned it yesterday, it looks like a complete disaster.  Dishes are piled to the ceiling.  The counter is a mess and you wonder if your family has ever heard of a dishwasher.  You think to yourself, “I don’t ask for much.  How hard could it be to just put the dishes into the dishwasher?  If I could only get a little help, things would be so much easier!”  As a mom, you can sometimes feel frustrated, especially when you have to say the same things over and over again.  It can be challenging when you feel unappreciated or that your family doesn’t value all that you do.

For some, you could have other challenges in your life that are unavoidable.  Maybe you have a child with special needs and each day is filled with a cycle of joy, desperation, happiness, and frustration.  And you sometimes find yourself feeling sad (as if you are a bad parent) at the fact that you feel frustrated with your child.  Life can seem so unfair at times especially when you compare your life to others.  You can even drift into the thinking that, “I didn’t sign up for all of these challenges in my life.”  But here’s some good news – Jesus wants your burdens!  You were never designed to carry all of the stresses in your life.  Stop trying to be superwoman.  Jesus wants you to give Him your burdens in exchange for His comfort, peace and strength.  Read the verses below then say the prayer at the end.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)

Prayer:
Jesus, you see my burdens.  I have nothing to hide.  I’m frustrated and sometimes I feel like I just can’t make it.  Jesus I give all of my burdens to you.  I ask for your peace in every area of my life.  Help me in the areas where I’m struggling.  Bless my family, give us your wisdom and guidance, and help us to become more like you each day.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
