Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)— remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:11-13 (NIV)

To become a citizen of another country, there are a few things required of you. You have to prove you are eligible to become a citizen and be willing to follow the laws of your new country. You have to give up your duty to the old country and accept duty to the new one.

Through Jesus, we are all eligible to become citizens of the kingdom of heaven. He provided a way for us to meet God’s requirement for citizenship by accepting the gift of salvation Jesus bought with his life at the cross.
