“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

Everyone starts as a sinner (Romans 3:23). Sin is a death sentence (Romans 6:23). Someone has to pay for it. In the Old Testament, sin was temporarily covered with the blood of animals. On our own, we could never repay the debt that was due for the sin in our lives. We could never save ourselves. The sacrifice had to be perfect, and we will always be imperfect in this lifetime. We needed someone to save us.

God is perfect. He always has been and always will be. He set the price for sin and knew we could never pay it. Instead of letting us spend eternity without him, he decided to pay the price himself. Knowing we were still sinners, Jesus died on the cross in our place. We were the ones that deserved to be punished for our sins, but God demonstrated his love by taking our place.

Prayer: God, thank you for loving me even when I am at my worst. Thank you for your sacrifice, so I can spend eternity with you. Use me to sow the seeds of your kingdom in the lives of others. In Jesus name. Amen.
