Jesus walked on a little way. Then he knelt with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, don’t make me suffer by having me drink from this cup. But do what you want, and not what I want.” Matthew 26:39 (CEV)
Jesus knew the plans for His future while in the garden. He knew the betrayal of a close friend was coming. He knew He would be beaten, mocked and crucified. As He prayed, He asked God to let the cup of suffering pass by Him. But He also knew the importance of following God’s plan, no matter how hard. He willingly drank from the cup.
In the life of all Christians, trouble will come. We are called to be salt and light in the earth. We are called to fight back against the darkness. We are called to speak the truth in love. Sometimes people around us are seeking the truth and are open to listen. Other times, the spoken truth pricks their hearts and they want to fight the truth by attacking the messenger. Our call is to fulfill God’s plan no matter the cost. Don’t let the cup pass you by.
