This week we talked about a legacy, where your life lives on beyond you.
We learned that we need to give to something that will outlive us and to live so your life outlives you.
We do this by giving what we have and serving others with our time, talents, and resources.
We recognized that we MUST intentionally share Christ with others.
But WHY? Why is all of this so important and what’s the big deal for Believers in Jesus to do all of this?
Because God says so:
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV)
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. . . . Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-12, 15 (NIV)
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven…” Matthew 7:21 (NIV)
There is more to this life than this life. With eternity in mind, we need to leave our mark for Christ on this earth in the lives and hearts of those we know and love.
It’s not enough to have a religion. We need to have a genuine relationship with Jesus.
There will be a judgment of those who believe and those who do not. Think about that for a moment.
There will be a Book of Life – will your name be in it? Who else will be named in this book because you lived and shared your faith?
Pray: Dear God – This decision of eternity is what our lives are all about. What did we do with Jesus? Help me to make my life count and help me to live my life by sharing my God-story with people I love. The only thing we take to heaven are people we lead to Jesus. Help me LORD, today, to lead someone to Your love and Your Son. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
