Feed The Dog

Feed The Dog

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV)

There is a story about an elder who tells his grandson that inside each of us, there is a gray dog and a white dog doing battle. The gray dog possesses qualities typically understood as negative, including envy, greed, sorrow, anger, resentment, and arrogance. The white dog possesses qualities understood as positive, including love, joy, kindness, empathy, compassion, humility, and peace. The grandson asks, “Which dog will win the fight?” The elder responds, “Whichever one we feed.”

Your thought life feeds the dog of your choice. You can focus on God and the Holy Spirit will help you produce the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). You can focus on your circumstances and they will look bigger than you can handle. You can focus on comparing yourself to others and become envious, jealous or depressed.

What do you focus on?
Are you feeding the white or gray dog?
What can you do to feed the white dog today?
