From Success to Significance

From Success to Significance

“Our people should also learn how to set an example by doing good things when urgent needs arise so that they can live productive lives.”  Titus 3:14 (GW)

Every person at some time in the first half of life considers success being a main goal in life.

Success is measured by stuff:  money, house, careers, cars…you get the picture.  The fact is success doesn’t satisfy.  God created us for more than success.  Somewhere in mid-life a person wonders, “Is this all there is to life?” People then consider things that last.

God designed people for significance.

Significance means having a lasting impact or influence on people – in life and long after it is over.

We learned this weekend you can leave an inheritance or you can leave a legacy.  An inheritance is leaving something to people.  A legacy is leaving something in people.

A legacy is a sign of significance.  A legacy makes a difference in people.  We feel fulfilled when we invest in others.  Become a mentor or coach and bring someone along on your journey of faith.  Bring others with you to Jesus.  We have all been called to serve, listen, and come along side of others.

“It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others.”  Ephesians 2:10 (LB)

ASK yourself:  Who invested in me?  Who can I invest in?

Pray:  Dear God, Thank you for reminding us what really matters…and it isn’t stuff, but people. Please show us who we can mentor and coach.  And Lord, it’s not too late for us to still be mentored and coached also.  Show us the person we can walk through life with and the person we can bring along to know your Son Jesus.  Thank you for creating us for significance.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
