God Gave You Blessings for a Reason

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.  Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 1 Timothy 6:17-18 (NLT)

While it is true that God’s blessings are meant to be enjoyed, our enjoyment is not the only reason for us to receive them. God blesses us when we trust in Him. God wants us to enjoy our blessings as well as use them to do further good in the world. God wants us to see the blessings He gives as further means to trust in Him. When we only take enjoyment of the good things in our lives, we can miss the wonderful giver (God) of those good things.  Also, when focusing on things instead of God, we miss the act itself of God giving to us and reduce our idea of what God can do to the role of a servant (bringing us good things) rather than the King bestowing wonders upon us. We can celebrate and rejoice in the blessings we have as well as recognize God’s hand in their coming to us.

Consider what blessings God has given you. In what ways can you use them to show God’s love to others? In what ways can you honor God in gratefulness?
